If you're buying a car, whether brand new or second-hand, it is a major investment so you need to get it right. Certainly in these days of economic difficulty you should not waste money on the car of your dreams which may cost a fortune to keep running in terms of heavy fuel consumption and repairs. You should buy the car you need and not the car of your dreams as featured on the cover of sports cars magazines. That is not to say you have to buy a boring car because there are plenty around that can give a bit of fun or a satisfying drive for a reasonable price. If you search online for car dealers Surrey for example, you will find a whole bunch of interesting cars in different body styles and engine types and sizes.
Buying the car you need means it has to be adequately accommodating for your needs but there is no point in buying a large car just to be flash because it could cost you dear, especially in depreciation. Many small cars nowadays are perfectly able to fit in four adults with reasonable ease and make more sense than a large limousine for many people, because fuel and servicing costs will be much lower.
Some people love the large 4 x 4 vehicles because they feel more self-important driving them and you see many driven by women on the school run, but one has to ask oneself if they really need such a large and thirsty vehicle just to take the kids to school. They may rationalize that they need a 4 x 4 when the snow comes but it is usually only for a few days in the year in the UK that we have such severe weather and the rest of the year the large 4 x 4 is just wasted on local journeys on ordinary roads, and is perhaps rather selfish by taking up more space on the roads than needs be. In any case there are smaller vehicles with 4 x 4 ability such as the Suzuki Jimny and the excellent four-wheel drive Fiat Panda which is more modern and just as capable. (more...)
